- Web Page:
A document on the World Wide Web, containing
text, graphics and other information.
Many
pages make up a web site.
- Web Site:
A collection of web pages, grouped and linked
together.
- Domain Name: A unique name identifying a web site. Usually
seen as www.domainname.com
- cgi scripts
Are the programs that allow interactive communication between web surfers and websites. E-mail forms, guestbooks, shopping carts, slide shows, and secure ordering are all handled using cgi scripts.
- Web Surfer or Internet Surfer:
A person who moves from site to site on the web, collecting information.
- Server:
A computer, usually a very powerful one, that hosts web sites and other information.
- Secure Server:
Provides a secure connection which encodes all information passing through it, preventing theft of information necessary for business transactions involving private communication. Often used for safely placing on line orders using credit cards
- Search Engine:
Special web sites that search for other sites
based on information you give them.
